A devastating terrorist attack on a joint security checkpost in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district claimed the lives of 15 people, including 14 security personnel, in the early hours of Friday, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

_x000D_According to the ISPR, heavily armed militants attempted to storm the joint police checkpost, but security personnel responded immediately and prevented them from breaching the perimeter.
_x000D_During the intense exchange of fire, security forces killed 15 terrorists, successfully stopping the initial assault.
_x000D_However, the attackers then drove a vehicle packed with explosives into the outer wall of the checkpost, triggering a massive blast that caused severe structural damage.

_x000D_Following the attack, security forces launched a sanitisation operation to ensure no remaining militants were hiding in the surrounding area.
_x000D_The military reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating terrorism through ongoing intelligence-based operations under the Azm-i-Istehkam national counterterrorism strategy.

_x000D_The attack comes amid a noticeable increase in terrorist activity across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
_x000D_Only last week, security forces killed 24 militants during intelligence-based operations in Bannu and nearby areas following a series of attacks targeting law enforcement agencies and civilians.
_x000D_Earlier this year, 15 police officers were also martyred in a suicide bombing at the Fateh Khel police post in Bannu after militants rammed an explosives-filled vehicle into the facility.

_x000D_According to the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa witnessed a sharp rise in violence during the past year, with terrorist-related fatalities increasing significantly.
