A devastating terrorist attack on a joint security checkpost in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district claimed the lives of 15 people, including 14 security personnel, in the early hours of Friday, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The military described the assault as one of the deadliest attacks in recent months, saying the security forces fought bravely to stop the attackers before they detonated an explosive-laden vehicle at the facility.

Security Forces Foil Initial Assault

According to the ISPR, heavily armed militants attempted to storm the joint police checkpost, but security personnel responded immediately and prevented them from breaching the perimeter.

During the intense exchange of fire, security forces killed 15 terrorists, successfully stopping the initial assault.

However, the attackers then drove a vehicle packed with explosives into the outer wall of the checkpost, triggering a massive blast that caused severe structural damage.

Fifteen Personnel Embrace Martyrdom

The powerful explosion resulted in the martyrdom of 15 individuals, including:

Clearance Operation Underway

Following the attack, security forces launched a sanitisation operation to ensure no remaining militants were hiding in the surrounding area.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating terrorism through ongoing intelligence-based operations under the Azm-i-Istehkam national counterterrorism strategy.

Officials stated that operations against militant groups would continue until the threat is fully eliminated.

Recent Rise in Terrorist Violence

The attack comes amid a noticeable increase in terrorist activity across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Only last week, security forces killed 24 militants during intelligence-based operations in Bannu and nearby areas following a series of attacks targeting law enforcement agencies and civilians.

Earlier this year, 15 police officers were also martyred in a suicide bombing at the Fateh Khel police post in Bannu after militants rammed an explosives-filled vehicle into the facility.

According to the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa witnessed a sharp rise in violence during the past year, with terrorist-related fatalities increasing significantly.
